Divided into different sections of different sizes, the base of the pyramid takes up more space than the others and contains those elements that, according to the USDA, need to be consumed more and more often. Going up the steps of the pyramid, the sections become smaller and smaller and contain those classes of foods that are recommended to be consumed in smaller quantities and more rarely over time.
